Fillingane wins first full term
Sen. Joey Fillingane is prepared to go full steam ahead into his second year in the state Senate after solid wins in Lamar and Covington counties carried him to victory over two opponents.
The Associated Press declared Fillingane, a Republican from Sumrall, winner over Collins Democrat Gerald Buffington as he held a 31 percent lead, or more than 3,500 votes, early today with nine precincts in Jefferson Davis County outstanding. Constitution Party candidate Vince Thornton had only 151 votes at the time.
