EAST LANSING - When Suzy Merchant took over Michigan State’s women’s program at the end of April, she held a get-to-know-each-other meeting with the players on campus and drove to meet each recruit at her home.
To a woman, they saw enough in their new coach to remain Spartans. No one transferred, and not one recruit who had signed with Joanne P. McCallie wanted to abandon her commitment.
